W&OD Trail Detour Schedule
Your feedback is extremely important to us, and we have created this interactive map to help you explore and understand the proposed project!
Dominion Energy will be doing transmission line work along the W&OD Trail in Loudoun County that requires a four-mile closure and detour of the Trail planned from April 11—15, 2022.
Crews will be replacing overhead wires, called conductors, on one side of the transmission structures along the Trail. This process is called “reconductoring.”
During this work, Trail users will be detoured approximately 8.5 miles onto streets, sidewalks and shared-use paths. The Trail will not be accessible from east of Claiborne Parkway to Tuscarora Park in Leesburg. To ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, flaggers and spotters will be onsite, and detour signs will be posted at specific locations.
This project is necessary to ensure the continued integrity of the electric grid. Line workers will use bucket trucks and also climb the structures to remove the old conductor and install the new one.
The Phase One work was completed in 2021. This current Phase Two work is scheduled from March 2022 to June 2022. From April 11 to April 15 our work will require the temporary closure of both the W&OD gravel and paved trails. Phase Three work is planned to occur from September 2022 to December 2022.
